Peter founded the practice that is now Warrener Stewart in 1983. He did so with the express aim of creating a technically excellent firm providing entrepreneurs and owner-managed businesses with the highest standards of client care.

From the outset Peter considered that providing a team based service environment in which capable and ambitious professionals could pursue meaningful and rewarding careers was essential to achieving this aim.

Peter, who is now a consultant to the practice, spent much of his professional life working in the area of SME corporate mergers, acquisitions, sales and reconstructions, working alongside clients throughout the process of planning through to finalisation of a wide variety of projects.

Now semi-retired, Peter remains as a consultant to the practice, available to assist on specific projects whenever required.

In 1999 Damian Talbot joined Warrener Stewart from a West End practice, specialising in property related matters, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor.

Damian is frequently involved in the structuring of start up businesses as well as in the tax planning issues arising from major transactions and reconstructions. For the past four years, Damian has been involved with many different aspects of transactional and compliance work for companies involved in offshore wind farms and other means of energy production.

In 2002, Damian became an Enrolled Agent licensed by the US federal government to appear in place of the taxpayer at the Internal Revenue Service. This involved him passing examinations administered by the IRS covering the US taxation of individuals, corporations, partnerships, estates and trusts, together with relevant procedures and ethics.

As a consequence, Damian is now the firm’s primary point of contact for clients who need to file US tax returns. He believes that historically there has been a very real lack of professional support for US citizens in the UK, particularly for those starting UK businesses and looking for a single source tax compliance and advisory service.

Damian manages an extensive portfolio comprising the tax affairs of individuals, partnerships, companies and trusts. His work involves organising their compliance affairs and providing tax advice. A large part this client work relates to the tax affairs of UK owner managed businesses and UK subsidiaries of multinational corporations.

Jerry Broers has been head of tax at Warrener Stewart since joining the firm in 1994. Jerry studied Accountancy at the University of Kent, qualified in 1982 and moved into the specialised area of tax. Experience at a number of small accountancy practices and at Arthur Andersen enabled him to build up a wide range of expertise and additional tax qualifications.

Married with three children, Jerry enjoys family life sport and keeping fit.

Since 1994 the tax department has grown steadily in size and reputation and boasts a range of specialist abilities. The department combines a caring attitude to the problems taxation can pose, with the technical knowledge needed in this rapidly changing area. Every transaction has its own unique taxation angles and the department is ideally placed to deal with these on behalf of the firm’s many and varied. Leading a team of highly qualified, motivated people is a pleasure and a challenge that Jerry thoroughly enjoys.

The current team is also able to offer excellent support to the other departments and the wider client base. Consultancy and advice combined with efficient compliance work helps clients develop their businesses and realise their ambitions tax efficiently. Jerry knows that he and his department will go the extra mile to help and support all their clients.

Jerry is confident that his department can combine the technical expertise of a much larger firm with the personal client service and knowledge of a smaller organization, thus giving the firm’s clients the best of both worlds.

After a biology degree at London University, Nick Morgan trained and qualified in the City with Deloitte Haskins & Sells (latterly PriceWaterhouseCoopers).

A career in the City with Deloittes offered involvement with high profile and world class clients, together with opportunities to specialise and travel. However, Nick wanted more direct involvement with owner managed businesses and to be part of running his own business. He therefore moved into the general practice environment shortly after qualification.

Nick now has over twenty years experience of servicing the many different needs of a wide variety of owner managed business clients, ranging from large companies to individual consultants. He values the opportunity to get closely involved and make a real difference.

For more than a decade, he has been working with his fellow partners to manage and develop the growing business that is Warrener Stewart. With responsibilities for staff, facilities, internal administration and accounting he can identify very closely with many of the issues and problems on which his own clients often require his advice and assistance.

Away from Warrener Stewart, Nick is closely involved with Rosslyn Park Football Club. He also enjoys cycling, running sport in general and the great outdoors, the latter more recently by motorbike!

Colin Edney has joined Warrener Stewart in 1995 and has been a partner in the firm since 1999.

A graduate of the University of East Anglia, Colin has a degree in modern languages and linguistics and speaks fluent French and Swedish and has a good knowledge of several other European languages.

Colin has over twenty years experience of working with and advising owner managed businesses. Prior to joining Warrener Stewart he gained experience at KPMG and BDO. He is a member of the Corporate Finance faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.

Colin is responsible for a portfolio consisting of a number of large and growing owner-managed businesses including those listed on the AIM. He is also responsible for the Firm’s solicitor clients dealing with financial and management accounting and reporting to the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority.

Alongside his regular client commitments, Colin is also heavily involved in a wide range of non-compliance work dealing with many one-off or specialist assignments. His areas of expertise include the following:

• business planning and forecasting;
• raising finance;
• due diligence and investigations;
• business valuations for expert witness, business disposal, tax and other purposes;
• forensic accounting;
• corporate restructuring; and
• the acquisition and sale of businesses on behalf of clients.

Email Colin Edney

Gary Chapman joined the firm in 2001, bringing with him expertise in audit and accounts and an impressive track record in advising small businesses.

Gary trained and qualified with a medium-sized, London-based firm where he worked for ten years and where he become a manager overseeing a large and varied portfolio of clients including a wide variety of different owner managed businesses.

Prior to joining Warrener Stewart, Gary worked for KPMG in London, as an audit manager, managing a portfolio of larger audit clients. This experience was invaluable and provided Gary with significant exposure to larger corporate businesses including listed companies. However Gary knew that his skills and interests were more aligned to working with the privately owned businesses typical of Warrener Stewart’s client base.

Gary is a member of the London Society of Chartered Accountants Audit and Accounting Technical Committee and chairs the sub committee on audit matters. Membership of this Committee ensures that firm is involved in all aspects of auditing and accounting and remains completely up to date with proposed changes to rules and regulations.

In heading up the firm’s audit and accounts department, Gary is responsible for the firm’s audit procedures and also for the scheduling and quality control of audit work. Gary is also responsible for student recruitment and training, enabling the firm to maintain its strong commitment, as a registered training office, to Chartered Accountants of the future.

In addition to these duties Gary is at the heart of the client service team, utilising his broad range of experience in managing a varied portfolio of business clients for the firm and has developed an expertise in the offshore wind industry, a business area he finds particularly interesting.

Jon’s early interest in business led him to read Accountancy and Financial Management at university. After completing his degree in 1998, he began his accounting career with Grant Thornton.

Having experienced living and working in various locations throughout England, Jon finally settled on London life in 2002. Jon’s experience of working with a broad variety of businesses in various locations made him a natural fit for Warrener Stewart.

Jon’s grounding in audit has given him an insight into a wide range of industries. This enables Jon to advise clients not only on compliance, but also on ways to improve efficiency and profitability. Jon places a high emphasis on getting to know the client and their business. Through this he is able to take a proactive approach in his dealings with clients. Jon works closely with clients in a number of different industries, with a particular interest in working with owner-managed businesses.

Outside of work, Jon enjoys spending time with his wife and young family. Jon is an avid sports fan, with a particular love of football. For his sins, Jon has been a long suffering Liverpool fan since a young age. When he can, Jon likes to try his luck carp fishing at a local lake.

Jon has a wide range of experience, having worked in all areas of the firm. He particularly enjoys giving plain English solutions to assist companies and individuals in growing their businesses.
