Warrener Stewart rounds up for a night of interdepartmental rivalry

02 July 2019 • Warrener Stewart

Every summer the accountancy and tax staff at Warrener Stewart take advantage of the longer summer nights to hold their annual inter-department Rounders Competition.

This year’s event took place on Eel Brook Common, the park opposite their offices in Fulham. Organised by the Accounts department, this was a battle of three teams. Accounts fielded a team of seven to take on the mighty eight from the personal tax department, whilst the US tax team grafted in additional ‘legs’ to field a unified team of eight.

Once rules and boundaries had been established, including the arbitrary argument over final decisions and what constituted a no ball, the first innings were won by Accounts. But the title of overall winners went to the personal tax team, whose star player Ryan O’Connor contributed to three of ten rounders.

Despite co-opting two fellow directors into the US Tax team, the addition of Nick Morgan and Gary Chapman, sadly had little bearing on their final score of 5.5 rounders. Whilst the agile accounts team tried valiantly to match the might of the big tax hitters, scoring a total of 9 rounders.

Keeping a close eye on proceedings and taking the role of bowler for the Accounts team, Colin Edney commented; “It was a very competitive match and a great way of enjoying some inter-department rivalry accompanied by light refreshments!

The Accounts team is already strategically planning for next year’s rematch, when we hope to knock it out of the park!”

“they have helped me make informed judgments at every twist and turn and offer incredible value.”
