New starters join Warrener Stewart during lockdown

20 July 2020 • Warrener Stewart

Despite the challenges of lockdown, work has continued at Warrener Stewart, supporting individuals and businesses in this challenging time. We’ve welcomed four new members of staff, with strong financial backgrounds across a range of disciplines with much to bring to the team.

James Hipkiss – Accounts and Audit Assistant

James joins us from Birmingham, after making the move to London in April amid the chaos of Covid-19. He has a strong background in accounts, with 6 years’ experience.

Following an apprenticeship directly from college, he worked at one of the top 10 firms auditing and accounting for large corporations turning over more than £100 million and small businesses, before moving into an industry role in internal management accounts.

James made the move to Warrener Stewart based on our ‘standout’ location and people, looking to build on his current knowledge with a more diverse service-based client facing role.

Maxine Howard - Tax Consultant

A qualified chartered accountant, Maxine started with Warrener Stewart mid-lockdown in May. After studying Finance and Accountancy at the University of Cape Town, she initially worked for a London firm, firstly in VAT administration and then in audit for SMEs and not-for-profits.

Realising she wants more exposure to UK and international tax and to move away from audit, Maxine joins us as a tax consultant to support our corporate clients and high net worth individuals.

Shakaela Carroll - US/UK Tax Advisor

Shakaela moved from Manchester to London four years ago to pursue a career in accountancy. She took a trainee accountancy role straight from A Levels and has a solid background in both technical and international taxation, especially US tax. She is currently working through her professional exams as well as assisting our UK-resident US citizen clients in her role as a US/UK tax advisor.

Shakaela chose Warrener Stewart as we have ‘an enormous amount to offer, including intellectual stimulation in the range of clients, and a wealth of options in terms of specialisms’. She is looking to develop her own client portfolio alongside completing her qualifications.

Samantha Langer - US/UK Junior Tax Consultant

Hailing from the south of France, Samantha brings with her significant academic experience in law, with a Masters in French Business Law from Aix-Marseille University. She has a strong background in legal internships, focusing on tax, problem solving and legal research. In her previous roles, she worked in personal taxes, particularly French and Italian.

Following the completion of her LLM in London, Samantha felt Warrener Stewart was the ‘perfect fit’ thanks to our location outside the City coupled with a wide range of clients. Now, wanting to learn something new, she’s focusing on US tax as one of our trainee US/UK tax consultants.

Joint Managing Director Colin Edney commented: “We have continued to provide a vital service to our clients throughout the pandemic. This is an important time for all our clients to talk to our accounting, tax and advisory teams so that we can help them with any financial implications caused by the current circumstances. We would like to wish our new recruits all the best in their new roles and we look forward to seeing them excel.”

“they have helped me make informed judgments at every twist and turn and offer incredible value.”
